How Will The Hurricane Season Affect The BP Oil SpillAs the first major storm of the hurricane
season approaches, people wonder how this will affect the oil spill in the Gulf. With Tropical Storm Alex looming there is
great concern that the oil will spread further making the clean up effort even more difficult than it already is. After 68
days oil is still flowing rapidily out of the BP destroyed oil rig and despite the efforts of BP oil is still flowing out
at a rate of up to 60,000 barrels of oil a day. As of yesterday Tropical Storm Alex's gusts have been measured to be up to
50 mph, which will only increase as it reaches the warm waters of the Gulf. These gusts could cause oil to dissipate throughout the Gulf and possibly reach the Atlantic Ocean. This could
have disastrous results as oil could spread across the eastern coast of the United States. Who knows what this hurricane season
will bring. Just imagine if another Katrina hit the Gulf and how exponentially the oil would spread and how many beaches would be destroyed and how many animals would be killed.
The oil spill has already affected thousands on the Gulf coast and Tropical Storm Alex among other major storms. Although
BP is using its resources to try to fix this massive debacle, you
can also help by donating or buying a t-shirt on TeenagersCare.org in which the proceeds go to local efforts to clean up the
spill. With this hurricane season approaching who knows what results it could bring, but we do know that we must continue
to put in all our efforts to cleaning up this catastrophe.
